On January 14, 2026, BMMI hosted the scientific and practical conference “The Role of the Physician in Managing Risk Factors. Prevention and Clinical Management of Patients with Risks Related to Nicotine Dependence.”
BMMI Rector, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor A.E. Samigullina presented a report titled “Results of a Study Assessing the Prevalence of NCD Risk Factors among University Students in Bishkek.”
Among the speakers was Anastasia Kalashnikova, Regional Director for Central Asian countries at Healthy Initiatives. Her presentation focused on “Nicotine Dependence: False Simplicity and Real Challenges for Public Health.”
Speaker Asel Namazbekovna Namazbekova, physician and researcher at the National Institute of Public Health under the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, presented a report titled “Comparative Analysis of Cardiovascular Disease Risk Factors in India and Kyrgyzstan.”
Dmitry Yanin, a leading specialist and public health advocate actively involved in WHO and GAES initiatives, also spoke at the conference. His report focused on international experience in overcoming tobacco dependence.
As part of the event, an interactive carbon monoxide (CO) measurement titled “Seeing the Invisible” was presented as an important motivator for those who want to quit smoking.
BMMI students were awarded certificates for their active participation in research work.
Certificates were awarded to students of the 3rd, 5th, and 7th semesters from groups GM-3-24s, GM-4-24s, GM-1-23s, GM-2-23s, GM-3-23s, GM-4-23s, GM-5-23s, GM-6-23s, GM-1-22s, and GM-2-22s.
The conference emphasized the importance of preventing risk factors related to nicotine dependence and the physician’s role in promoting a responsible attitude toward health.
