Participation of BMMI Students and Faculty in a Scientific and Practical Conference on NCDs

On December 24, 2024, in Bishkek, faculty members of the department actively participated in organizing and conducting a scientific and practical conference for students on the topic “Problems and Ways to Reduce the Incidence of Noncommunicable Diseases in Modern Conditions.”

The participants discussed the prevalence of noncommunicable diseases, promotion of a healthy lifestyle among the population, harmful habits and dependence on harmful behavior, as well as alternative solutions for improving lifestyle and reducing the incidence of NCDs.

Several presentations on relevant topics were delivered during the conference. Rector of BMMI, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor A.E. Samigullina presented a report titled “Results of a Study Assessing the Lifestyle of Students in the Kyrgyz Republic.”

Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor N.E. Dzhanuzakova presented a report on “Epidemiology of Noncommunicable Diseases.” L.Yu. Panteleeva, Head of the Department of Medical Psychology, Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University named after B.N. Yeltsin, Candidate of Medical Sciences and Associate Professor, delivered a report titled “The Epidemic of Non-Suicidal Self-Injury among Adolescents and Young People: Causes and Approaches to Therapy.”

Gintautas-Juozas Kentra, Deputy Chairman of the Association of Legal Entities “National Association for Harm Reduction of Health Risk Factors — Densaulyk” from Kazakhstan, presented a report titled “The Concept of Harm Reduction: Basic Concepts and Approaches. International Experience.”

In addition, a student essay competition titled “Best Essay on NCDs” was held as part of the conference. The winners were awarded: three students received prize places and two participants received consolation prizes.

Based on the results of the competition, the committee selected the best essays on bronchial asthma, mental health, and COPD.

1st place was awarded to the work of 9th-semester student Abhilash Reedy on the topic “The silent epidemic; unveiling the hardest-ever resonance of cardiovascular disease” — 97 points.

2nd place was awarded to the work of 8th-semester student Einstein Ramachandran on the topic “Depression — a growing entity within yourself” — 91 points.

3rd place was awarded to the work of 9th-semester student Sagar Sharma on the topic “Stroke — the silent killer” — 85 points. Two students received consolation prizes for active participation and enthusiasm.
