BMMI Held Student Debates on Controversial Issues in Modern Medicine

On March 18, 2026, BMMI hosted student debates on the topic “Controversial Issues in Modern Medicine.”

BMMI students participated in the debates. Two teams took part: Team A and Team B.

Team A included Gnanasri Gokanakonda, group GM-1-22s; Dinagaran Eswaran, group GM-1-22s; Kusuma Raju, group GM-3-22s; Gungun Jain, group GM-1-23f; and Likhitha Avula, group GM-1-25s.

Team B included Vishal Mandloi, group GM-2-22s; Deep Patidar, group GM-3-23s; Swapnil Damor, group GM-1-23s; Hardik Chaudhary, group GM-1-23s; and Sangitha, group GM-6-23s.

During the debates, three topics were discussed: whether euthanasia should be legalized for patients with terminal illnesses, whether third-trimester abortions are acceptable under any circumstances, and whether energy drinks and psychotropic drugs can be considered a means of improving academic performance.

The discussion showed that euthanasia remains a complex and controversial issue: supporters emphasized humanity and the right to choose, while opponents focused on risks and moral limitations.

Regarding third-trimester abortions, participants concluded that late-term abortions may be justified only in exceptional medical cases, not under any circumstances.

On the issue of energy drinks and psychotropic drugs, participants noted that short-term advantages may be possible, but they are accompanied by significant health risks and controversial ethical aspects.

Team B won the debates: Vishal Mandloi, Deep Patidar, Swapnil Damor, Hardik Chaudhary, and Sangitha.
